It’s been a few weeks since the brutal murder of George Floyd; it has been painstaking to continue to see additional lives be taken since, and constantly remembering the lives unjustly taken before. Each of us are taking the time and space to reflect, process, and learn about our world and the way we play a role within it. We are all working at our own pace, but we feel it necessary to make it clear where we stand on this important movement.
This image has been reposted on social media several times, but really resonated with us. Each of us on the A&PW board are responding to and coping with this issue in different ways – and are at different places in regards to how we move forward. Some of us are stopping to learn, some of us are full steam ahead, and some of us are just trying to figure it all out.
And that’s okay.
There are significant challenges we continue to face, we have also seen progress. Arrests have been made, but not all of them. Names are now known, but not all of them. There’s so much more work to do. So we encourage you to find your own lane – whatever it is.
We ask you to join us and just keep your foot on the gas.
Together we have created a list of resources that either we have found or have been shared with us. We hope that you can use them, too.
We, the Academic & Professional Women of UCI, stand with the Black Lives Matter movement.
